The new Fairmoor Elementary School is a 54,850 SF single story facility located on a 9 acre urban neighborhood site. The site was the location of the previous Fairmoor Elementary school structure, which remained open during construction. The building is oriented to maximize security and better manage access to the site for vehicular, pedestrian, and bus traffic. The Interior spaces include three kindergarten classrooms, seventeen 1st grade - 5th grade classrooms, and three special education classrooms. In addition to the academic and administrative core spaces, there is a gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and a visual/performing arts center.
The scope of this project included: Development of a Program of Requirements, Site Planning, Civil Site Design and Engineering, Landscape Design, Schematic/ Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction Administration, Post-Occupancy Walk through, and Furniture selection including preparation of a furniture bid package. As part of developing the design, the project team facilitated communication with the buildings future users by working with the local community through the organization POSE and by holding meetings with neighborhood participants in association with the NDP.
