Hueston Woods State Park Lodge, originally built in 1965, has been minimally renovated in its almost 55 year history. The existing cedar wood shakes were over 50 years old and past their life expectancy, requiring complete replacement. Abbot Studios conducted a thorough assessment of the existing roofing system including the existing roofing system, wood decking, and timber framing. Abbot Studios designed a complete roof replacement utilizing a synthetic shingle shake system designed to be installed directly over the existing wood roof decking designed to look substantially similar to the original cedar shingles.
Additional work included the replacement of roof areas of additions which have been added on over the years including a PVC roof over the kitchen and dining areas and a replacement of the plaza deck at the entrance of the lodge as well as a new fire alarm system where feasible. With an accelerated schedule for completion of the Project, Abbot Studios expedited the design of the Project to facilitate an early completion date requested by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
